Where do the surnames come from?

First names come from INSEE's register of names given to babies born in France since 1945, and surnames from INSEE's list of surnames of people born 1941–2000.

What does “Common” do?

In “Common” mode surnames are weighted by how many people have them. “Any” gives every surname the same chance.
